Welcome to our Go To First Aid Training blog.

We are Donald Todd and Kate Goodhand both experienced nurses and nurse educators. We are passionate about helping people to learn how to recognise when first aid is required and to know what to do.

I am a registered Children and Young People’s nurse. I worked in the hospital setting for around 15 years with experience in surgical, operating theatres, burns and plastic surgery and high dependency care. I have worked around the U.K., returning to Aberdeen to work in high dependency care after which I joined the nurse lecturing team where I have worked for the last 16 years.

I have thoroughly loved my career working with children, young people and their families as well as teaching new students on their journey to becoming qualified nurses. My teaching role has covered children's and young people's nursing and also included training for adult and mental health students, along with students from the broader multi-disciplinary healthcare team. During my time as a lecturer, I have led the basic life support team and recently spearheaded the development of first aid at work training.

Kate and I have worked together for our whole time together in education both having an interest and passion for skills. We have always had an amazing work relationship, complementing each other when we have taught together.

Now is the time for us to venture out with our passion for supporting people to be confident to provide first aid to those in need.

I am a registered adult nurse, and for 15 years I mainly worked in acute medical settings, the last few years working for the NHS I held a dual role as night sister and training coordinator. I began lecturing in 2000, my work at university was varied and enjoyable. In my teaching role I gained most satisfaction from teaching skills, such as basic life support, especially in an interprofessional context. In the last four years I taught first aid helping individuals achieve a first aid at work qualification.

Living in rural Aberdeenshire has highlighted for me the importance of people recognising the immediate actions needed in an emergency and helping them feel confident and competent to provide first aid when needed.

Here at Go To First Aid Training we offer a range of first aid training from short courses in basic life support and defibrillator training suitable for individuals, clubs or societies, to one or three day courses to meet first aid at work or emergency first aid at work legal requirements for workplaces.

We hope we can meet you or your companies first aid needs and look forward to working with you.
