What you need to know about health and safety law

The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981stipulates the first aid provision that businesses need to provide for their workforce. It is recommended that someone is identified who is capable of delivering first aid during working hours.

The Health and safety Executive (HSE) are responsible for regulating health and safety law across businesses and workplaces but recognise that an employer is best placed to identify the first aid requirements for their business. The HSE provides employers with guidance about their first aid requirements.

The following are criteria to consider:

  • Number of employees

  • The type of workplace

  • The size of the workplace

  • Risks associated with the workplace

  • History of previous accidents

  • Remoteness of workplace sites and distribution of workers

  • Work patterns

  • Contractors, visitors and users in the workplace

We can help you with identifying your needs.
